HOT: The new Porsche Cayenne

What the Porsche 911 did for roadsters, the new Cayenne Turbo S is doing for SUVs and that is owning the road.

What could be scarier than a 2.2 ton SUV rocketing along the N1 at 283km/h? Well the Porsche’s engineers have made this a reality by launching its performance tuned SUV – Cayenne Turbo S.

The Cayenne Turbo S is powered by a petrol V8 capable of 405kW at 6000 rpm, which is a 33kW improvement over the standard Cayenne Turbo. Maximum torque has been boosted from 700Nm at 4500 rpm to 750Nm and the engine is mated to an eight-speed auto.

The new model is capable of blasting from 0-100km in a mere 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 283km/h…remember this is an SUV now capable of hunting sportscars!

The model packs all of the basic Cayenne properties such as versatile off-road capabilities, high ride comfort and superior towing power with high performance making the model capable of keeping up with its roadster siblings.

You’re not going to win over any member of Greenpeace though, as the Turbo S has a claimed fuel consumption of 11.5 litres/100 km and that’s if you’re driving it in optimal test conditions.

The new model has been tuned for dynamic performance and as a result it incorporates sports kit and systems from the Cayenne Turbo as standard.

From its (marginally) slower sibling, the Cayenne Turbo, it borrows air suspension and active PASM damping control.

The model makes use of Porsche’s Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), which reduces body roll and improves ride comfort.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), is standard, and operates with an electronically controlled rear differential lock. What this means is you’re not only going to be quick on a straight line but capable of handling the twisties as well.

Porsche designers have created coloured leather packages, available in various patterns, for the new Cayenne Turbo S.

Whether you’d like the attention grabbing black/carrera red or more reserved black/beige, Porsche has a number of colour combinations.
