Bending Colours teaser
Jordy Smith is without doubt South Africa’s top surfer, and has been for a few years now. The ASP (Association of Professional Surfers) breaks all over the planet are his battlegrounds, where he has not only earned the respect of top dogs like Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning, but has also become a real contender to take the title of best in the world.
Eleven times world champion Kelly Slater is the first to admit that Jordy is the future of surfing.
With dodgy, inconsistent judging creating some real discontent amongst those contesting the title, it’s more likely than ever that a shake-up in the competitive surfing world is imminent, and Jordy is the one doing the shaking.
Having held back from making his movie until he felt the time was right, Jordy decided to work once more with the talented and respected Kai Neville (they first worked together on Modern Collective) and together, they tell the Jordy story – including where he came from, and with a big clue as to where he is heading, with that super strong style of launching himself into the most insanely impressive manoeuvres.
Bending Colours gives you some information of Jordy’s development in the sport and features interviews with the man himself. These are as chilled as the big guy himself, but the spectacular visuals are what the film is really all about. It is definitely fresh surfing content that even those okes who spend hours watching wave after wave of awesome surfers from around the world will appreciate and rate above all they have seen before.
Most of that is due to Jordy’s crazy talent, but some of it is also thanks to the best camera gear out there – Red Bull’s Phantom Cameras. We first saw footage of them in Art of Flight and now they are put to great use in this powerful piece of surfing brilliance.
Even the non-core surfer types will get some worthwhile entertainment out of the perfect length (not a full feature movie) production of Bending Colours. But those young guys out there looking to emulate their hero will be totally stoked to the max bro!
